I provide couples and relationship counseling to couples experiencing a wide range of relationship issues, commitment issues, communication problems, infidelity, family conflict, and more. Treatment is collaborative and intensive. We work hard together to resolve the presenting problems while identifying the underlying issues. I am privileged to have served the LGBT community for over 15 years.

I usually see each person separately for a while to determine what the dynamics are and what each person brings to the relationship that is their own issues that need resolution.I will then see them together and achieve better results.My style of working with couples has been effective if both are ready to look at their issues and improve communication.

It is not easy being part of a couple. Two different people with two separate egos, and various wants, needs, preferences, and desires. Do you or your partner suffer from social anxiety and it's affecting your relationship? I help couples of all ages and types to resolve issues that interfere with their connection and contentment. For most, this includes intimacy problems, both emotional and sexual. We focus on communication, assumptions, misunderstandings, differences, needs, wants, trust as well as betrayals, including affairs, roles and expectations. I start by seeing you together so we all hear together why you are seeking help. Unlike individual therapy, which is entirely confidential, with couples, the work is for both of you so it is important that the three of us communicate without keeping secrets. I often also have some individual sessions to get to better know who you are apart from your partner.

My approach to couples counseling is to create an open and honest space for each individual to be able to express their feelings safely. The goal is to overcome any obstacles that the relationship may be facing and working with the clients to develop their own tools and techniques that they can utilize in their home to strengthen their relationship. I utilize acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and emotion focused therapy.

Sometimes members of a couple get stuck in their old relational patterns, the ways they have always related to others. As years pass by, and romance or sexual experiences diminish or other life events happen, the old patterns become more evident leading to gaps in communication, dissatisfaction, and lack of excitement. As a therapist, I will help you to communicate more effectively with your partner, in ways that acknowledge your personal needs and the needs of the other. I will help you find balance between conflicting needs: the needs of the individual and the needs of a couple. I work with straight couples and GLBT couples.

As a certified Imago Relationship Therapist, I help partners feel more connected. I teach couples how to communicate so that partners understand each other, feel safe and don't take their partner's behavior personally. Once partner realize they are on the same team they can start to resolve their conflicts, rebuild trust, strengthen their relationship and bring back the passion.
