I take a comprehensive approach to treating depression that looks at both mental and physical health factors. I typically recommend having a physical examination with blood work to identify any potential medical conditions that might be impacting mood symptoms. From there, we will work on developing tools to assist you in coping with and overcoming negative feelings that include: goal setting, stress reduction, problem solving, challenging negative thought patterns, and identifying a support network. We will also address physical health and lifestyle contributions to depression such as sleep, nutrition and exercise. This mind/body approach is designed to restore balance and restore health.

Depression is usually created by Negative Cognitions learned early in life that form a client's view of themselves, such as "I am unlovable" or "not good enough." Learning can be from verbal scripts or non-verbal sources, such as physical or sexual abuse, bullying, or anger or other dysfunctions in the family of origin. Steve helps clients eliminate depression with the use of Cognitive-Behavioral tools, and to keep it from happening in the future by processing the original sources of negative beliefs through the use of EMDR. Steve will also help clients enlarge their support system and improve interpersonal intimacy to further reduce Depression and improve Self-Esteem.
