My work with eating disorders is limited to reducing addictive cravings for foods, when these cravings result from depression, anxiety and/or upsetting life experience. For several years I completed psychological evaluations with candidates considering weight loss surgeries. Many individuals referred to me for desensitization of traumatic life stimuli and/or reduction of distress with specific fears reveal that they have unwanted cravings for chocolate other sweets or sometimes salty carbohydrate filled snacks. There is an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy protocol that can be used to reduce unwanted food cravings once underlying distress is adequately addressed.
