Many times anger is a reflection of having limited ability to deal with upsetting life stimuli, which results often in being very depressed and/or anxious and perhaps having underlying traumatic life material or specific fears that have not been adequately treated. I have often found that many angry appearing individuals benefit from desensitization of traumatic and other upsetting life stimuli using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. For this to occur is necessary to be able to identify upsetting life material, focus on it and then work through the unwanted stimuli in sessions. Once the underlying upset is resolved then anger often educes significantly.
