Depression is among the most common and devastating health conditions a person can face. Fortunately, there are treatments that are proven to provide relief to individuals suffering from depression. In particular, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is among the most researched and proven treatments for mild to moderate depression. At Mindly, we strive to incorporate cognitive-behaviorally focused interventions into individually tailored treatment plans because research and our own clinical experience tells us that this give us the best shot at helping children, men. and women with overcoming depression.

I use elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) in my work with clients to treat depression. I have a warm and compassionate approach, and strive to meet each client where he or she is at. I make referrals to psychiatrists who can prescribe medication if needed, and when appropriate; however, I believe that medication is not always necessary to treat depression. I help my clients implement good self-care practices and coping skills that can help to mitigate depressive symptoms.

Depression effects both partners in a relationship, not just one of you. If your partner suffers from depression, you may be left thinking "what about me"? Emotional difficulties don't just effect one of you- if one of you suffers from depression, then you both suffer from depression. Counseling can help if you want to: Learn how to manage the effects of depression or other mood disorders on your relationship. Learn how to build a relationship that helps mitigate the effects of depression. Learn how to stop "walking on eggshells" and feeling trapped by your partner's depression.

This is confusing for most people who don't suffer from it. Can't we all relate to feelings of depression? How many of you hear stories of how someone has pulled out of it with their own will power or been given suggestions to take a bath or serve others? If you are struggling with the condition, this can make you feel misunderstood, angry, invalidated and alone. Depression is not anyone's fault. Look in your family tree. Anyone else seem to fighting this? It runs in families because it is about heritable sensitivities in your body, like allergies or cancers. If you struggle with depression, even if it seems to come and go, please get help. There are people who get it and are there for you.
