In our first few sessions, we will explore your beliefs about yourself and life. These beliefs arise from the patterns exhibited in your growing up years. We will also explore biological components to depression and help differentiate between depressive situations and a depressive brain. Discussions will include health questions, medication possibilities (referrral available for meds) and spiritual components to depression. I combine talk therapy with detective work to uncover patterns and offer solution based counseling for change.

Treatment of depression is designed to help patients explore the full range of their emotions, including feelings they may not be aware of. By making the nonconscious elements of their life a part of their present experience, therapy helps people understand how their behavior and mood are affected by unresolved issues and unconscious feelings. This can lead to a reduction in depression and an increase in positive feelings.

Most people who are depressed find it difficult to pinpoint what it's about. After all, it may be that nothing has "happened". There may not be a crisis. Things may be seemingly very good on the surface. And while we completely understand this as the lived experience, we are experts at coming to an understanding of what the depression is really about. Most of therapy or counseling processes utilize validation, unconditional positive regard, and reframing as common techniques to get someone to heal from their depression.
