Miles Diller is a psychologist with over thirty years of experience with children, adolescents and adults, providing therapy, testing and diagnostic services for ADHD, learning, and other behavioral, emotional and social problems. He is certified in Gestalt, has trained and conducted research in cognitive behavioral therapy, and has experience in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT); he uses all of these approaches to help alleviate anxiety, depression, stress, and phase of life issues.

Understanding psychological growth and deviations from healthy developmental processes is essential in helping individuals and couples improve their situation. In my work, I make use of adaptational and motivational perspectives. Using adaptational strategies, I attend to how a client experiences, appraises, reacts, and copes with life stressors. The motivational perspective, on the other hand, attends to the fulfillment of physiological, security/safety, belongingness/love, esteem, and self-actualization or spiritual needs. It is not uncommon to be unaware of our deeper needs and motives, and the conflicts that exist between our needs and the actions used to satisfy them. In helping others, I tailor my approach to the client’s goals and needs.

When I attempt to be of help to a client I bring to the table all the knowledge and skill I have acquired in earning a Ph.D. in psychology and many hours of additional formal training. However, this is only the beginning. I also bring to the table everything I have learned in many years of relating to people as therapist, friend, family member, group member, and psychotherapy client. What I know about my own humanity is more important that all of my formal training.
