“The Impossible Task”…if you’ve ever struggled with depression you get it. Something that ought to be so easy; sending that email, taking a shower, making the kids lunch, or walking the dog feels as if it’s insurmountable. Well-meaning friends and family aren’t very helpful when they suggest things like, “Just get dressed and exercise. It’ll make you feel better.” I get it. Calling a therapist might be the hardest thing you ever do. If you can take this one step, we’ll walk the rest of the way together.

Depression can vary from a vague sense of unhappiness and disquiet to crippling experiences of hopelessness that feel as though they will swallow you completely. Regardless of how your depression is manifesting, you cannot work through it alone. Depression can feel like a dark cloud that hovers over you. Sometimes it can come with no warning and feel like the cloud will never go away and like you’ll never see the light of happiness. Other times, you can see it coming. It can leave us with memory problems, forgetfulness, not having energy to do anything, eating changes, procrastination issues. I also draw from many different techniques to help people get relief from depression, including somatic experiencing, mindfulness, expressive therapies, movement, and others, and lead more fulfilling lives.

Although their are various symptoms attributed to depression, at its core it involves a loss of one's sense of passion and purpose in living. I help people recover their lost sense of passion and purpose by helping them look deep inside themselves for what they have lost. It is not easy work, but it is very rewarding. Once this work is done, the symptoms of depression are no longer needed.

Depression affects and is affected by your actions, thoughts, and emotions. We will stop this vicious cycle by starting to acknowledge the factors that contribute to your depression and develop strategies that will provide relief. As you gain ground against your depression, we will target more complicated problems and develop more comprehensive strategies. You will start with simple behavioral changes. You will follow with changes in how you think of yourself, others, and the problems you face. You will continue with changes in how you strategize and solve problems. Finally, you will develop methods to maintain these changes and continue to accomplish your goals with confidence and hope.
