In the gospel of Matthew, Jesus states “If your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.” This simple statement guides my approach to counseling. The light exists, and we sometimes need help to improve the soundness of our mental and emotional “eyes” to let more light into our personal awareness and influence our feelings, thoughts and behavior. I respect the sacred and unique way that each person experiences a relationship with God, especially during periods of mental, emotional, or relational distress. From my own study of the Bible, I am continually impressed by the applicability of Christian values and truth to issues of mental, emotional, and relational health.

While most Christian Counselors pride themselves on how many Scriptural passages they can recite and how many links they can make from the Bible to psychological disorders, the Christian-centric work of Grey Matters International, Inc.is grounded in one principle: truth. For us, the work is more about truth and transparency of Christ's message and working on the natural laws of accountability and decision making that evolves from that. If one honors God's natural laws of reaping and sowing around the decisions one makes, one is indeed living Scripture to its fullest. For those who wish to address spiritual issues and personal faith in their healing process, I provide a non-judgmental environment to allow God to work in your life. I have a background in ministry and a strong personal Christian faith as well as Biblical training. Looking at life from God's perspective provides a basis for growth and change. Building your trust during difficult times and sharing your spiritual journey in therapy can open a wider path of healing and change.

Change is hard. Our brokenness runs deeper in us than we wish, but so does our capacity for growth and change. My Christian perspective gives me a helpful frame for grappling with and understanding this tension: It gives me great compassion for how challenging it can be (due to our brokenness) to grow and change, and it also gives me great hope for each person's innate ability to change (because of God's protecting within us the capacity for healing). I would be honored to help you deepen your faith as you wrestle with God, your brokenness and your untapped capacity for change. And in so doing help you to become more whole, more free, more the person God created you to be.

Being a Christian certainly does not keep us from experiencing hard times, emotional struggles, illnesses, or relationship pain. My goal is to help you navigate whatever challenges you may be experiencing, either individually or as a couple, in a way that strengthens your faith and reminds you of the purpose God has for your life. While it can be incredibly hard to walk as a Christian in the world today, it is my belief that God will make a way.
