Family therapy is an area that I am passionate about. I feel that most of our issues can find its root in our family of origin. Everyone wants to be heard, and everyone wants to be valued. However, no one is being heard or valued, because we are all speaking so loudly that we can only hear ourselves. Sometimes we need an outsiders perspective to help us each other. I greatly desire to help your family be as healthy as it can be.

Families are complicated. Sometimes those we love are the hardest to be around, often because of old hurts, personality differences, and poor communication. If you’re struggling with issues around family, I can help coach you through the challenges, teach you new strategies, and help you gain new insights. Whether you’re needing the accountability to set boundaries with difficult family members, or looking for new skills to heal relationships that are strained, I’m here to help. As Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, we provide a safe and supportive therapeutic environment for helping our clients to take steps toward their goals. Family therapy can be done with one or more people in the session. We can work with you individually to explore and gain insight into your family relationships, and we can also invite family members to join and be part of the process.

As a husband and father of 7 I know firsthand the blessings and challenges of family life. I enjoy working with families to understand the patterns that aren’t working, and illuminate hopeful alternatives. Improved communication, empathy, forgiveness, boundaries, family roles, and trauma are assessed in putting the puzzle together to find healing.

Emotionally healthy families create an emotionally healthy world. Most of us did not grow up in a family that taught us how to communicate in a way that promotes optimal emotional health. Family therapy is an opportunity for a safe space where communication can be taught and practiced and past hurts can be healed. Some of the most powerful healing I have experienced in my work as a therapist has been in family counseling when all parties come together with the goal of understanding one another in mind. The most emotionally healthy humans are those who feel they are important to their family of origin. A family that is willing to listen to understand instead of to be right creates this.

Everyone has a role in a family - whether it was a chosen role or assigned to you by your parents. Discovering your role, and whether you want to continue in the role is truly up to you. I can help with setting boundaries, and with those "walking on eggshells" relationships. Family relationships can be entrenched and hard to navigate. I can help untangle, understand and heal these relationships.

Given the wide variety of family issues I have encountered over the years, I have adopted an integrated therapeutic approach. Hence, clients will receive general psychoeducation in a number of areas including: values discovery, parenting, interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, boundary setting, sibling rivalry, mutual respect and accountability to mention a view. As your "group therapy leader," session time will be effectively managed. Role-plays will be utilized extensively to allow for relative freedom of expression. In addition, homework assignments are a prominent and prevalent component to our intervention strategy. Finally, priority is given to confidentiality and trust.

My approach to family counseling focuses on creating a safe and inclusive space where everyone feels heard and valued. I work collaboratively with families to identify patterns of communication, address underlying conflicts, and foster mutual understanding. By blending modern techniques with proven approaches, I help families rebuild trust, strengthen connections, and develop healthier, more supportive relationships that benefit everyone involved.
