Recovery from an eating disorder can be a very difficult and frustrating process. I have a passion for helping clients to learn ways to live a life free of disordered eating, eating disorders and fixation on food and body. I use a combination of cognitive behavior therapy, mind/body practices, development of healthy rituals to replace eating disorder rituals, the use of group therapy when appropriate, working with the emotional quality of food, developing mindfulness techniques to gain greater control over disordered eating impulses. I offer individual therapy as well as group therapy.

Disordered eating is rooted in perfectionism and shame. Shame is a powerful, painful emotion and it makes sense why we try our best to avoid it, even if the measures we take to avoid it are at times destructive. However, you can learn healthy ways to deal with these feelings and problems that lead to more enjoyment out of life and a healthy mind and body. Healing starts with self-compassion, understanding your disorder, and taking steps to overcome the disorder and change your behavior. We'll focus on the underlying issues AND take actionable steps to change your behavior.

Eating disorders typically involve a combination of psychological and nutritional counseling, along with medical and psychiatric monitoring. It is imperative that the therapist involved in treatment specializes in this population since experience working with eating disorder is not only ethical in the treatment of this disorder but also leads to a better prognosis. Currently we do not specialize in this treatment but can refer you to facilities that do.
