I have helped adult, adolescent and children struggling with depression and mood disorders become happier and more productive through the use of cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, narrative, acceptance and commitment, and mindfulness-based therapies. I also encourage clients to explore lifestyle choices that may help them deal with depression and other mood issues.

We help our client to overcome or manage depression symptoms through holding safe space for them to work through difficult emotions and experiences in a supportive environment. Depression can be caused by many different factors and can be temporary or chronic. Processing traumatic experiences and gaining perspective into what is contributing to your symptoms can shed light on how to lessen the severity and have more good days than bad. Grey Matters International, Inc. and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, Ph.D. handles depression and other emotional disorders in a very unique way. Most of therapy or counseling processes utilize validation, unconditional positive regard, and reframing as common techniques to get someone to heal from their depression. Though this can be helpful, it rarely fixes the core problem behind it and for tough cases we then refer them usually to a psychiatrist for medication which can have tons of side effects. Depression can be so difficult to manage and come out of nowhere. When we work together, we will gently learn the core of the distress that you are experiencing. As we learn your life story, we may find that some of the distress is rooted in early childhood trauma and attachment wounding. We will embrace all parts of yourself and learn about the challenging messages you may have grown up with that manifested into the distress you feel today. Depression can be a messenger, an alarm telling you that it is time to heal experiences from earlier in life. In our work together, we'll use EMDR, Emotion Focused Therapy and Expressive Arts to help you become your best self.

If you feel depressed, you may be frustrated because you don’t know why. On the other hand, you may know why you feel depressed but the symptoms don’t subside. Many times we are still affected in the present by painful events of our past. We can’t change our past. However, we can change how the past is affecting us today. With every hurtful event comes emotional pain and a negative belief about you. In psychotherapy with me, that event can be processed in a way that removes the pain and replaces the negative belief with a positive belief of your choosing. Depression can color your world with a grayness that is hard to escape from. Depression can be very complex, involving a lot of heavy feelings and emotions. Let me help untangle the emotions and heal the pain. My job is to listen and find out gradually where the wound is - and then heal it. You don't have to live with the pain- let's work on it together.
