We are passionate about and skilled with helping couples to repair and strengthen their relationship by utilizing techniques from evidence-based practices such as Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy and the Gottman Method. These techniques help get to the heart of the matter to increase relationship satisfaction and heal emotional injuries that may have occurred throughout the relationship or as a result of previous trauma. In Couple’s Counseling; I accept the view that as individual we are complex beings who are multifaceted and therefore multi-storied. So in working with a couple, I try to balance the conversation, so that each feels heard. My aim is be neutral to each, as much as possible. So in the initial session we collaborate in setting ground rules. I encourage autonomy so each know his/her right to govern their own freedom of choices and behaviors. I steer away from cookie cutter activities as I believe that in the process of therapy client will use their resources to find their own path that work for their relationship. I utilize an integrative approach to therapy.

COMMUNICATION AND SUPPORT IS VITAL FOR A MEANINGFUL AND LOVING MARRIAGE OR RELATIONSHIP. Sometimes we struggle to identify our needs to our partner and don’t know what they truly need in the relationship. Even when you want to show love and be loved, it is difficult when one or more partner struggles to be emotionally available. The couples or marriage therapist helps couples support each other during crisis, open up about their feelings, and reconnect with the fun in their relationship.

Working with couples is extremely specialized and should only be done with a trained clinician. Please ask the right questions to ensure you are in good hands with someone who knows how to guide you. The client is the relationship - not the individuals! So an individual therapist is not the way to go here. At KML, we have a trained PSYPACT psychologist who is licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), so she can work in any PSYPACT state. This work should focus on what the couple wants for their relationship (sometimes the goal is uncoupling kindly), guiding the couple in healthy growth of the relationship, and all without shame! I help couples understand the root of their issues and assist them in connecting at a deeper level. I work with marriages in crisis, infidelity, same sex relationship, and also provide premarital counseling.
