I help clients identify the triggering emotion that is behind the anger. Using a cognitive approach and an Anger Management guide from SAMHSA clients are given different assignments to help them understand triggers, and learn different coping skills to use to manager the anger. One technique used is the anger meter where clients are asked to monitor their anger on a scale of 1 to 10. Counseling for anger helps a person establish or repair broken relationships, and can prevent someone from losing a job or a relationship.

Anger can be a powerful emotion, but when it feels overwhelming or out of control, it can disrupt your life and relationships. My approach to anger management is focused on understanding the root causes of your anger, identifying triggers, and developing practical strategies to respond in healthier ways. Together, we’ll create a supportive space to explore your emotions, build self-awareness, and learn techniques to manage anger constructively. You’ll gain tools to foster better communication, reduce conflict, and regain control.

I often coach men on how to better regulate their emotions, including anger. I can teach you strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, provide relationship insights from the Gottman Method, and help you practice calming strategies to take control back. You might have every right to be angry. But if it’s making things worse, it’s time for a change. At Lion Counseling, our mission is to help you escape the cages that hold you back and become the lion God created you to be.

Grey Matters International and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, Ph.D approaches issues of anger management in a very humane yet fresh perspective. You see, anger is a normal emotion but it is the valence (intensity) as well as the coupling choice of what one does with this that is the problem. Telling someone to "not" do it or modifying behavior with a trite psychological plan that only breeds a compliant response is not the way to change anger. Brainwave optimization is a new cutting edge technology that allows one to rewire circuitry responsible for reactivity driving the anger. Why do we get angry? Are we able to recognize our anger rather than deny it? Once we become aware of our anger and the problems it is creating in our life and in our relationships what do we do about it?These are the questions we help you answer and work through here at Gateway. Remember anger is a secondary emotion, meaning some other emotion is behind the anger. This emotion is often in the subconscious level of your life. Don't spend your life mad at the world and leave ruined relationships in your wake. Anger left alone only gets worse. The sooner you reach out for help the better.

As a culture, we do not do well with healthy expressions of anger. Often we are raised to suppress it and then we have limited practice at dealing with big emotion. There is a spectrum of healthy aggression- to keep us safe and to maintain boundaries- and rage- our body's strategy for safety. Anger management is about applying the right "dosing" to maintain boundaries yet not fracture relationships or suffer other losses. I am able to help you learn to regulate your body to be able to apply the appropriate "dose" to be effective and not destructive.
