Modern married life is tough on couples. When one or both of the partners has a demanding career, you may feel the expectation to be perfect. In addition, you add the stresses that come with parenting and your marriage can face enormous pressure. When you and your spouse stop communicating, your relationship can feel the impact. You are less likely to feel understood or known by your partner. Communication difficulties magnify your challenges and contribute to loss of trust, honesty, and connection.

Couples counseling involves learning to listen, agreeing to disagree and having mutual respect for self and others. This reaches beyond marriage- it can be any type of relationship. I am currently studying the Gottmann Method for Couples Counseling and know how to facilitate communication skills to bring a clear understanding and better engagement strategies for couples.

I only see couples, it is my passion! We look at the negative cycles fueled by communication, money, parenting & blended families, careers, health, and/or sex/intimacy. Working with couples individually/collaboratively without blame or shame, assisting partners in understanding their role in the conflict, has been a primary focus of my 30+ years of clinical practice. I teach couples that there is no right way to live.The framework and ingredients are defined by each person in the relationship. Connection, not control, engagement, not enmeshment allow for ongoing individual growth and relationship capacity. Personal awareness, acknowledgement, new attitudes and behavioral action all contribute to building a bridge between partners. I assist my clients as they look to themselves not the other to create ongoing growth, capacity and fulfillment of commitment.
