Having worked as an employment specialist, I consider myself an expert in all types of career counseling. While not a "head hunter", I have amassed a wealth of information as to how job search, obtain an interview, execute a successful interview and maintain a position. I have worked extensively with the N.Y. State Education Dept. (Access-vr) to assist clients with mental health disabilities to succeed as individuals and valued employees. Partnering with employers and on the job coaching has been the key to my success. My belief is that everyone can work and that it can be a process but can change someone's life.

Career counseling is similar to other types of counseling. In working with my client the focus of therapy is on issues such as career exploration, career change, personal career development and other career related issues. I work with my clients to help them with feelings of inadequacy, clearing out the clutter to make the right decisions and next steps.

My approach to clients undergoing career issues begins with an assessment to determine the type of problem, including lack of direction, negative performance reviews, workload anxiety, lack of advancement, or the need for a transition. Once we've established the priority, treatment includes setting goals together and developing a therapeutic relationship, including coaching, to support and maintain the client's progress.

I leverage a solution-based approach to clearly outline your primary challenge, work through an exercise to meditate on and define your future state and then work over 8 sessions to achieve it via homework and 1:1 sessions. Clients have experienced great success with this approach, my goal is to empower you - YOU have the answers and I want to help you find them.

Finding or changing a career requires understanding your own values, skills and goals, and what the job market is like. Here are some questions that should be answered: are you suited to entrepreneurship or is steadiness a priority? I help clients clarify their needs rather than needs sculpted through years of compliance with a partner or spouse. The client who is confused or feels lost is asked to slow down the thinking process to get more in touch with the feeling process.
