For some people addictions and compulsions are just a way to get rid of bad feelings. The problem is that the bad feelings always come back. Compulsive and addictive behaviors - like obsessive and compulsive disorder, gambling, sexual addictions, eating disorders, cutting, etc. - can work very much like alcohol and substance abuse. They are ways of controlling strong emotional reactions of anxiety, anger, sadness, loneliness or guilt. I use 90-minute and 3-HOUR SESSIONS to identify and fully resolve the roots of your emotional reactions so that they no longer trigger the urge to self-medicate.

Working with a lot of DUI (now considered OUI) populations as the lead therapist at a major outpatient center, I learned very quickly the causes of most forms of addiction. Today's science offers a strong correlation between biology and the propensity towards abusing substances and the interventions we now use have greatly improved along with the science.

Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy you will learn the tools to help you identify your relapse triggers and healthy coping skills. We will work on changing people, places and things to maintain sobriety. I work well with many types of addictions, from substance (legal or not) to behavioral (sexual, gaming, etc.). The areas in which I am most successful with clients are in mild to moderate substance addictions and mild to severe behavioral addictions.
