My clients often find me easy to talk to and say they feel comfortable with me, trusting quickly. This can make the psychotherapeutic process easier and more effective for my clients, especially if they are nervous or don’t know what to expect. Therapy with me can range from just talking casually with each other, leading to insights, increased self awareness, and processing through emotional issues, or it could be more intensive deeper therapy like EMDR.

If you are seeking a change in your life...If your problems are so great and you need help...I may be able to help. I say "may" because change is a direct result of your own strong desire and commitment. Exploring YOU- whats working in your life and what is not- is the first step toward change. In therapy, we will examine past and present dysfunctional relationships. We will also explore those relationships that are healthy, functional, and joyful. I will help you examine unresolved conflicts and their symptoms, challenge existing beliefs, and work toward understanding the relationships of past and the impact they have on your present behavior.

Psychotherapy is not anything to be scared of, or intimidated about. Seeking out a therapist or being in therapy isn't an admission of weakness or some kind of character flaw. Therapy is a collaborative process and a partnership with someone who is trained in and experienced with facilitating personal growth. And in this process, you are in the driver's seat. Our minds and emotions and relationships involve complicated machinery just like our bodies do and in the same way a medical doctor helps you stay physically healthy, Psychotherapy is designed to help you be and stay mentally and socially strong, and continually in a position to take on life's many challenges as your best self.

Over the past 30 years I have developed proficiency in a range of approaches to help people overcome dysfunctional patterns of behavior, emotions/physiological reactions, thinking, and in their relationships with others. Out of this experience I have developed my own approach to psychotherapy which integrates all of the styles I have learned. Now, I don't do a one size fits all approach. Instead I work with each person that comes to me to construct their own individualized treatment that usually pulls from several different approaches.

My approach is to work collaboratively with clients using a holistic model of therapy which entails a blending of Eastern and Western modalities. For example, training in meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, proper exercise, a nutritious, science-based diet and maintaining proper sleep hygiene. Also, including talk therapy can then help to reveal core values and issues. Mindfulness training benefits clients in observing clearly thoughts and behaviours. Clients benefit greatly through the use of evidence based interventions by developing the skills needed to evaluate thought patterns and overcome destructive patterns.

I have a warm, compassionate, down-to-earth style. I focus on helping people improve self-awareness, learn self-acceptance and create greater intimacy in their relationships. I believe in creating a sacred space where individuals can honor their true feelings and learn to let go of shame. I do not offer trite clichés or stereotypical therapeutic interventions; my treatment approach helps individuals develop mindfulness, curiosity and self-compassion. Your wounds will be honored, your imagination will be cherished and your dreams will be respected. Most importantly, I am dedicated to supporting your healing and growth.

Psychotherapy can be a frightening word because “psycho” brings up images of Norman Bates and he is certainly someone none of us want to be associated with. The truth is that psychotherapy is just a fancy word for counseling. If “therapy” is used alone, people ask if it is physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc. A prefix was needed to distinguish it from other therapies and unfortunately “psycho” was chosen. Please don’t let the word stop you from seeking any necessary help you may be seeking. Needing help doesn’t mean you are crazy or that you are weak. We all need help at various stages of our lives and if you are in need now, please let me assist you. Call me at 714-751-0888.

Therapy is not a one size fits all experience. Though I extensively trained to understand specific theories of practice, I utilize a "prescriptive" approach. This means I will adapt to your needs in treatment. Therapy is co-created, it is relational, and it is in the therapeutic relationship where we seek personal growth to apply outside the therapy room. I work with adult individual clients who are grieving a significant loss, LGBTIQ+ adults, adults with creative blocks, neurodivergent adults, people pleasers, those recovering from trauma, and adults burnt out about their work.

Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms so a person can function better and can increase well-being and healing. Problems helped by psychotherapy include difficulties in coping with daily life; the impact of trauma, medical illness or loss, like the death of a loved one; and specific mental disorders, like depression or anxiety. There are several different types of psychotherapy and some types may work better with certain problems or issues.
