The emotions of grief and loss can feel like overwhelming waves that crash on top of us and threaten our survival. The ironic thing about this violent process is that when we commit to experiencing the waves, we feel better. In fact, grief can also be compared to a ‘vehicle’ that if and when we choose to enter, will faithfully drive us to a place of healing. While no one can carry the burden of our grief journey for us, having a therapeutic support can keep us from feeling isolated, as well as help focus us when the waves threaten to overwhelm our sense of progress and hope.

As we journey through life loss is inevitable. We experience loss whenever there is a transition in our lives; changing careers, moving, our children leave home, our relationships ends, and most deeply when someone we love dies. All of these losses require us to grieve. Each of us feels the depth of the loss or change in our own unique way so our grief is very individual and personal. In my work with grief and loss I offer, with deep compassion, a safe place to express the emotional pain around the loss you are experiencing and offer tools to help you navigate life with the loss and find a way to thrive again.

Grieving is a process and a journey, not a feeling. When we lose someone, the feelings that arise are often unexpected, sometimes even random. And whatever those feelings are, we owe it to ourselves to feel them. They will, in fact, demand to be felt. As a therapist, I try to be a vessel to receive the feelings that come. I do so without judgement.

Grief can leave you disoriented and staggering. Your loss may recent, or in the past but never mourned. The loss of a person, a relationship, a career, your health, a pet are all serious disconnections. As a therapist, I will accompany you as you face your loss and express all the different emotions you may need to express. These may include sadness, anger, guilt, abandonment, and fear for your future. In time, you can move towards accepting and integrating your loss into the larger narrative of your life. With patient and compassionate support, you can gradually start to live again with enthusiasm.

Grief and loss leave us feeling distressed and destabilized. Whether your loss is through a break-up, death, or transition, grief can feel constant and heavy. I provide a supportive environment in which to reflect on the impact of your loss, and make sense of what this means for you - your sense of self, and your future. Whether it is the early days of your loss and you are looking for support to anchor you, or you have been struggling with this loss for months or years, we can work together to reconstruct meaning in your life.

Grief and loss is a lonely, isolating and often surreal experience. You may experience stages of anger, negotiation, sadness, and acceptance. Sometimes you just need to cry while being witnessed. This space is here for me to witness all the sadness, emotions, crying, facilitate you holding yourself in compassion instead of criticism and judgment and help you move through the stages toward the other side.

Even though we would want to tell the client that grief and loss is a neat process of 5 - 7 stages (denial, anger... acceptance), it is usually experienced as a roller coaster of emotions and it takes a different amount of time for every individual. What I do is to help clients embrace and express different levels of pain: 1) talking about emotional experience, without showing the emotion; 2) talking with emotional reactions (tears coming, trembling voice); 3) silent crying; 4) sobbing and 5) loud crying and screaming. Finally, we should not forget that moderate denial is natural (like a temporary break from grief). And yes, grief can shake our faith, but it usually leads to acceptance.

Grief is common to us all, however, how we grieve, is a very individual experience. My focus is in familiarizing you with your process of grieving and helping you reorganize your emotional life with grief as a predominant character. Grief can be alienating, to our former self, as well as to our those closest to us. My role is helping you integrate your grief, as much as we can.

When a person is in deep sorrow from grief and loss, the person is feeling a terrible sense of aggravated state of losing someone or something special. It is like a massive amount of money loss feeling and tons of heavy weight is dropping inside someone's heart. I suggest to my clients what they have been missing out and think about the opposite and consider people around the client. So I guide them to think about their emotional path from deprived, incorrectly positioned and misplaced ways, to privileged and correctly positioned ways and laying your emotions out properly. Some of the most effective suggestions are; you allow it to pass it, and share it with people around you. Matt 11:28-30
