I will go over with clients situations that result in them being depression. We will go over their thoughts when they are depressed and the behaviour as a result. We will go over looking at the proof of their thoughts and the proof against their thoughts. We will also look at reframing negative thoughts into realistic thoughts overall. We will go over strategies that can be helpful when the client is started to get depressed.

Dr. Rochefort works with individuals experiencing depression to accept, change, or adapt to adverse life circumstances, set goals and implement strategies for the future, change problematic thinking and behaviours, and develop skills to cope and overcome.

Depression can make it a challenge to do the basics, to feel motivated, and to give us a feeling of self-worth. It can defeat us and leave us feeling hopeless. I believe that there is a way through small steps, sometimes the smallest, to start to establish that depression does not have to take hold of our lives. Sometimes medication is necessary as well and it is also important to ensure the client's safety in case of self-harm thoughts.

Depression can be the result of situational factors and for others it can be unrelated to any life events. When we better understand how our thoughts, feelings and behaviours are interconnected we can use these three points as intervention points. For example, how may our thoughts or behaviours be maintaining the state we are in. It can be helpful to further explore if there are negative beliefs or cognitive distortions driving the dialogue we are having with ourselves. If so can we challenge these beliefs and embrace healthier or more helpful beliefs. We can also explore whether there are behaviours we are engaging in or situations in our lives contributing to the depression.
