My approach to addictions counselling involves exploring what is going on underneath the surface. For me, addiction is really about disconnection. Through counselling, we can work together to understand more about what you might be feeling, what you are disconnecting from, and how we can support you to connect to yourself, others and the world in a healthier way.

Addiction is now seen as being a chronic disease. Its been found that brain circuitry is affected by the disease whereby the drive for reward and gratification leads to a clouding of judgement. Previous memory as to costs of the problem behaviour is overlooked and poor choices are made. Good intervention practice includes addressing the behaviour "cycle" and identifying points of intervention within the cycle. This is commonly known as relapse prevention.
