My approach to family counseling is to increase and improve communication among all family members. My goal is to increase understanding among family members, as well as everyone’s ability to respect the uniqueness and value of each family member. I engage the family in communication activities and provide homework for between sessions. I assist families in processing through difficult events that may be causing tension and work to strengthen and improve relational functioning

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy within the family context. I believe our thoughts leads to our feelings, thus influencing our behavior patterns/communication towards other family members. I also utilize Dialectical Behavior Therapy given it's large emphasis on validating multiple feelings and experiences at a time, which is important to make space for given the variety of people making up the family unit.

In working with children and teens, dysfunctional family dynamics are a major contributing factor in the development of symptoms of anxiety, depression,substance abuse, and academic underachievment. Improving empathic communication within the family system can play an important role in the treatment of a variety of psychological conditions.
