My approach is to help the child feel safe and comfortable while working to process through difficult experiences. I help children increase coping skills and learn to manage negative feelings more effectively. I include caregivers in my work with children, as I feel they are the most important person in the child’s life. I provide guidance and support so that the caregiver is able to help the child reach treatment goals.

In her work with young children Khara utilizes her 4.5lb trained therapy dog, named Tino. When children don't want to come to therapy, they often want to go to see Tino. This helps children feel more comfortable faster than would be possible without Tino's help. This allows Khara to "jump right in" to why your child is coming to therapy. Khara uses Tino to teach children important skills like listening, following directions, and most important, setting healthy boundaries.
