Anxiety and stress are experienced as very distressing and can become debilitating. They are often signs that we need to make some changes in our lives and find more balance. Fortunately there are many ways to combat anxiety and stress. Everyone is unique and counselling is modified to meet the individuals needs of each person. Starting to identify alternative ways of approaching stresses enables you to make changes that relieve anxiety so you can become more focused and peaceful.

Most people do not like feeling anxious or stressed. People are not saying I am glad to be stressed or anxious. What do we do when this happens. We need to process it and for most people counselling is a place for processing. Along with processing stress and anxiety comes a deeper longing to to be heard and validated and to sometimes be given new skills or strategies. What ever you need whether an ear to listen, heart to understand or ideas for coping with it I can provide it in comfortable environment.

Anxiety and stress are sometimes helpful responses and can carry important information for us about our current lives. However, they can also be overwhelming and come with sensations that are difficult to tolerate. I can help you learn techniques to soothe your body, regain balance, and address the mind chatter that may be perpetuating your anxiety.

I have experience helping individuals overcome challenges related to managing multiple life stressors (i.e., parenting and relationship issues; difficulties finding work/life balance; caring for aging parents; etc.). Based on the unique needs of the individual, I incorporate evidence-based therapy techniques into sessions such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Our counsellors use many different methods one of them being EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Brain Spotting. These methods use eye movement and placement to see more deeply where traumatic events link themselves to specific symptoms in a client. Anxiety and Stress can come from many things and often talk therapy can be incredibly helpful. This is an excellent place to start.

Anxiety and stress are experienced by most psychotherapy clients who come here. People usually find my approach helpful whether or not they identify anxiety/stress as a primary condition for treatment. I always aim to adjust my treatment approach to the individual characteristics and needs of my client. Sometimes situations and systems can be addressed and improved; sometimes all that a person can change is their own attitude. I am able to use verbal, visusalization, and altered state strategies for helping people grow past fear.

Anxiety and stress can negatively impact client's ability to deal with daily challenges and stressors. Anxiety is excess activation in the nervous system so helping clients to release the activation in turn reduces their anxiety and then they can experience a sense of calm and feeling settled. Toxic stress affects the way we think and perceive reality so addressing the anxiety allows us to retrain the brain to manage the stress and perceived threat which reduces fear, worry, and panic.

Through a multi-faceted approach, clients' anxious thoughts and feelings are explored without judgment. I work on helping clients to take small, purposeful actions toward their core values despite their anxiety. Additionally, we explore the stories that the client tells themselves about their anxiety, empowering them to reframe these narratives and regain a sense of control. Together, we also uncover and begin to understand any parts of the client that are activated by anxiety. My goal is to help my clients to cultivate greater emotional flexibility and resilience to help them navigate anxiety in a way that aligns with their true self.
