Currently I work with a intimate partner violence program where anger management is a key component of the program. I approach anger from a values perspective where we work to identify values of a person and how anger crosses values we have when things get out of hand. I also may employ memory work to help individuals identify how things went wrong in the past and how they can learn to see anger rising in themselves before it's too late to correct course.

It often feels like Anger arises without warning. Before we know it, we are in the midst of an angry outburst. It doesn't need to be this way! At Menla Psychological Counselling you will learn ways to regain control of your anger, rather than having it control you. The goal of anger management isn't to get rid of anger, it is a valid emotion after all, but rather to stop anger from causing chaos and pain in your life.

A response to life's events falls upon a continuum from neutral to highly-reactive. At times anger, Gandhi called it "Righteous Indignation," is necessary to respond to injustices or inappropriate behaviours. However, uncontrolled, inappropriate anger is destructive to one's self and others. Mindfulness and Metta (Loving Kindness) meditations are excellent tools to deal with anger. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) also called Tapping, along with skillful use of affirmations can help to cool the fires of anger. The benefits of anger management lead to a regulating of emotions and thus a gaining of peace of mind, positive relationships, career and family security.

I will work with clients to understand their experience of anger (the emotion) and to understand how it is fueled by underlying beliefs and expressed as behaviors. I will explore with the client how their underlying beliefs and perceptions may be contributing to their experience of anger. I will work with clients to develop a plan for self-care, to reduce stress and anger-intensity and to manage behaviors more effectively.
