I provide a safe space for getting clear about the changes you want to make in your life. I have a gentle and compassionate manner along with an “out-of-the-box” view for problem solving. Exploring our emotions is an important part of the healing process, including joy!

I provide psychotherapeutic mental health counseling to individuals and couples using both conventional and more spiritually-oriented approaches.

I specialize in the use of imaginal dialogue, a technique that draws upon the client’s imagination to provide precisely what s/he needs to move through specific areas of work.

Imaginal dialogue happens when we enter our imaginations and interact with whomever or whatever we encounter there. Children engage in imaginal dialogue when they “make believe.” When adult clients use imaginal dialogue, deep and transformative healing can occur. For example:

·         A mother struggling with the loss of a child is finally able to grieve when she holds him one last time in an imaginal dialogue, and has the chance to say and hear what had been left unsaid.

·         A woman coming to grips with having been sexually abused in childhood is finally able to confront her perpetrator in an imaginal dialogue where she is protected by a fierce and loving lion.

·         A man who is pushing through social anxiety and panic attacks experiences a profound sense of safety and well-being when comforted by an imaginal angel.

·        An overachiever who has recently retired feels lost without a job to go to each day. In imaginal dialogue he reconnects with the energetic boy he once was and relearns how to enjoy days of relaxation in the out-of-doors.

I earned both PhD and LMSW from the School of Social Welfare at the University at Albany in Albany, New York. My doctoral research focused on the psychotherapeutic use of imaginal dialogue, and my dissertation on the subject earned the University at Albany Distinguished Dissertation Award in 2010.
